iPhone update killed my battery

For some reason after performing the update to 2.0 my iPhone was dying after 10 hours or so. It was pretty pathetic. After using it the normal amount all day, I would be at under 20% of battery by 6 or 7pm. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one with this problem.

I went to settings and looked at my usage, without using my phone yet for the day, it still said that I had as much usage time as I had stand by time since its last full charge. Some process was getting hung up, and I think it is one of two in my case. The first guess is the “Location Services” feature. That one or the Push feature of MobileMe. I like the push feature for my calendar and address book, but I can manually do the push if need be.

I turned off Location Services and restarted my phone this morning, now my Usage looks right, 17 hours Standby, 4 Hours Usage, battery looks to be around 60%. My guess is I found my problem, and fixed it. I don’t really need Location Services anyway, at least I don’t think I do.

Good job on the troubleshooting. I upgraded my nano last night but haven’t had any problems yet. I’m still holding out for AT&T’s contract to run out so I can get the iPhone with Alltel.

You may be in love with Alltel, but supposedly, word on the street says it is illegal for companies to lock people into service contracts or something like that, so you can’t be charged a fee to change carriers. I haven’t looked into it, but its something I’ve heard on the street.

Yeah. A court made the ruling in California last week. Actually, Verizon just bought Alltel about two months ago so maybe I’ll get the best of both worlds…. Cool phones and a great plan. If anyone would come out with a Data Plan that can be shared by two phones I would do that. But right now I don’t see the need in paying $200 bucks for phone service. $89 is bad enough with out data.

There’s no money in allowing someone to share an unlimited data plan. Just wait a couple of years and I think we’ll see unlimited everything plans.
