My Web related RSS feeds
Wednesday, August 13th, 2008
I subscribe to decent amount of RSS feeds. I also have a problem of where I have to check them whenever a new post has come in. I keep a folder on my bookmark bar in safari, so whenever a new feed comes in I get a number up there which makes me check it, I don’t have a choice, I have to. You’ll notice a couple missing, the main one being A List Apart. It was causing problems for a while, everyday it would say there was a new post, but it was just a duplicate of the previous one. I just need to bookmark it again. You’ll also notice that I don’t have ReadWriteWeb, they post too often so I would find myself getting sidetracked from work a lot, so I removed them as well. I also don’t have AuthenticJobs in there, but I do on my home computer. Even though I’m not looking for a job, I like to see what is out there, and I don’t think it would be appropriate on my work computer.
Some feeds post stuff several times a day, some feeds post stuff once a week, or once a month, or sometimes longer. That’s fine with me, those posts once every couple of months usually say something good.
I forget what a lot of these websites look like because I just look at the feed, and the links below are to the feeds. I’m not sure what that would do if you’re on IE6, but whatever, you shouldn’t be on IE6.
So, here are the feeds

iPhone update killed my battery
Tuesday, August 5th, 2008
For some reason after performing the update to 2.0 my iPhone was dying after 10 hours or so. It was pretty pathetic. After using it the normal amount all day, I would be at under 20% of battery by 6 or 7pm. I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one with this problem.
I went to settings and looked at my usage, without using my phone yet for the day, it still said that I had as much usage time as I had stand by time since its last full charge. Some process was getting hung up, and I think it is one of two in my case. The first guess is the “Location Services” feature. That one or the Push feature of MobileMe. I like the push feature for my calendar and address book, but I can manually do the push if need be.
I turned off Location Services and restarted my phone this morning, now my Usage looks right, 17 hours Standby, 4 Hours Usage, battery looks to be around 60%. My guess is I found my problem, and fixed it. I don’t really need Location Services anyway, at least I don’t think I do.
